

“WHO World No Tobacco Day”

The I.T.S Centre for Dental Studies and Research, Delhi-Meerut Road Murad Nagar, Ghaziabad celebrated “WHO World NO tobacco Day” keeping the theme “Tobacco Free Youth” in mind from 29th May to 31st May 2008 under the leadership of Prof. Hari Parkash. The college conducted following activities during this period.

These activities were conducted for Undergraduates & Postgraduates Dental Students of I.T.S Centre for Dental Studies & Research, College of Biotechnology, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy and more than 800 Students, Faculty and Staff actively participated in these activities.
The public lectures were delivered by Prof. Hari Parkash, Director-General entitled “Tobacco a great curse” to the humanity and by Dr. M.D. Gupta, Senior Consultant Internal Medicine, Max Hospital, New Delhi entitled “Healthy life by igniting mind” on 31st May 2008. A film entitled “Smile Please” on oro-dental diseases and oral cancer was also screened.
First, Second and Third prizes were given to the students participated in the above said competitions.
In addition to these activities, Dr.Utkal Mohanty, Senior Lecturer is conducting survey about the knowledge, practice and attitude regarding use of Tobacco by administrating, confidential self-administered questionnaires as part Global Health Professional survey for Dental students .The College is running Tobacco Counseling Clinic and early Oral Cancer Detection Clinic.
At the concluding session, the students were asked to take pledge to fight against the use of Tobacco and Tobacco related products. Further the college management have intensified their campaign against the smoking in the campus and has declared the campus “Smoke Free Zone” and completely prohibited the use of Tobacco and Tobacco related products. There is also a plan to introduce a fine of Rs. 500/- if any student found smoking and chewing Tobacco etc.
